New Construction NewsMarket InsightsMarket Stats Canada Housing Starts Rise More than Expected in June by Nest & Castle July 15, 2020December 3, 2020 July 15, 2020December 3, 2020 The seasonally adjusted annual rates of housing starts in Canada rose 8.3 percent from a month earlier to 211,681 units in June 2020, beating market expectations of 198,000 units, according to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). Urban starts increased by 8.7 percent to 196,675 units, as multiple urban starts jumped by 13% to 154,602 units while single-detached urban starts dropped by 4.5% to 42,073 units. Rural starts were estimated at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 15,006 units.
