New Construction NewsMarket InsightsMarket Stats Canada Housing Starts Rise Less than Expected in March by Nest & Castle April 15, 2019December 3, 2020 April 15, 2019December 3, 2020 Canadian seasonally adjusted housing starts rose to 192,527 units in March of 2019 from a downwardly revised 166,290 units in February but below market expectations of 196,500 units. The SAAR of urban starts increased by 17.6 percent in March to 178,033 units. Single-detached urban starts advanced by 12.1 percent to 42,139 units and multiple urban starts went up by 18.6 percent to 135,894 units. Rural starts were estimated at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 14,494 units.
