New Construction NewsMarket InsightsMarket Stats Canada Housing Starts Fall Slightly Less than Expected by Nest & Castle February 15, 2019December 3, 2020 February 15, 2019December 3, 2020 Canadian seasonally adjusted housing starts fell to 207,968 units in January of 2019 from an upwardly revised 213,630 units in December and slightly above market expectations of 205,000 units. The SAAR of urban starts decreased by 2.1% in January to 190,912 units. Single-detached urban starts dropped by 10.4 percent to 44,559 units while multiple urban starts increased by 0.7 percent to 146,353 units. Rural starts were estimated at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 17,056 units.
