Market InsightsMarket StatsNew Construction News Canada Housing Starts Fall Less than Expected by Nest & Castle August 15, 2019December 3, 2020 August 15, 2019December 3, 2020 The seasonally adjusted annual rates of housing starts in Canada dropped 9.6 percent from a month earlier to 222,013 units in July 2019, beating market expectations of 203,500. Urban starts decreased 10.4 percent to 209,122 units, as multiple urban starts slumped 12 percent to 162,722 units while single-detached urban starts fell 4.6 percent to 46,400 units. Rural starts were estimated at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 12,891 units.
